Hottest July for Guernsey since records began

The warmest July temperatures have been recorded in Guernsey since records began in 1843, according to Guernsey Met.

Meteorologists said July was the third consecutive month to set new temperature records for the island.

The average temperature during the month was 19.5C (67.1F), significantly higher than the long-term July average of 16.7C (62.1F) recorded between 1991 and 2020.

Only 5.4mm of rain fell during July, with rain recorded on only three days, but Guernsey Water has said a hosepipe ban is "not on the cards".

Despite the lack of rainfall, July 2026 was not Guernsey's driest July on record. In July 2022, only 1.4mm of rain was recorded.

By contrast, the wettest July occurred in 1894 when 167.1mm of rain fell on the island.

Guernsey also enjoyed 339.2 hours of sunshine during the month, 34% above the 30-year average.
