In pictures: Lightning strikes illuminate stormy West Midlands

Sky above parts of the West Midlands was lit up by lightning strikes on Thursday evening as storms continued in the region, with people capturing a range of startling images.

It came as parts of Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and Warwickshire dealt with the aftermath of flooding.

A weather warning remains in place until 21:00 BST, with further storms in some areas potentially bringing up to 20 mm of rain in a short period and between 30 and 40 mm should anywhere see repeated downpours, the Met Office said.

Lightning and hail could be additional hazards in a few locations before easing on Friday evening, it added.
