Driver accommodation blamed for Guernsey bus disruption

Bus services in Guernsey have been disrupted due to difficulties securing accommodation for drivers, with passengers reporting cancellations and reduced timetables on social media.

Stagecoach, which operates the island's bus network, said the disruption was "caused by an isolated incident involving the loss of driver accommodation".

The company said this temporarily affected its ability to bring drivers to the island, creating a shortfall in staff needed to run services.

A spokesperson said the accommodation issue had been resolved and apologised to customers affected by the disruption.

The Environment and Infrastructure Department said it was aware of the issue and continued to monitor Stagecoach's performance through monthly reports based on the key requirements and performance targets in its contract.

It said, where the required standard was not met, the reasons were investigated and consideration given to whether penalties should be applied.

The department said it maintained a "positive relationship" with Stagecoach and it continued to engage with the company through the monthly reporting process.
