Firefighters believe the blaze was started after sunlight shone through a glass garden table

Firefighters have issued a safety warning after a garage was believed to have been set on fire by sunlight shining through a glass table.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Werrington Road at about 18:45 BST on Thursday, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

No-one was injured during the fire, which was safely extinguished, said the service.

Watch Manager Timothy Plant said: "In the lead up to and during the summer months, please remember that any glass, or glass object, left in a garden is very good at concentrating light."

He added: "When that light's on an object that burns easily, such as dry grass or wood, it can start fires."
