Bristol City won with a late show at Deepdale to make it four straight Championship defeats for Preston North End and provoke boos from the home fans.

Lisav Eissat scored his first goal for the Robins with 11 minutes remaining before Dom Ballard netted four minutes from time as Preston sank to the bottom of the table.

Preston have lost their first four league games for the first time in 70 years and the this latest defeat will only increase the pressure on manager Paul Heckingbottom.

Scott Twine opened the scoring for City after just four minutes before Caleb Wiley deservedly equalised with his first goal in senior football.

Preston got off to an awful start when City opened them up down the left to score after just four minutes through Twine.

Lorent Tolaj shot across the six-yard box and the alert Twine slotted home from close range for his second goal of the season in four games.

Preston picked themselves up and they were the better side as Jusef Erabi missed an inviting chance when he scuffed his shot wide from Harry Clarke's cross.

Robins goalkeeper Sam Tickle then produced a fine save to keep out Jordan Thompson's free-kick before Wiley headed against the far post from six yards out when he should have scored.

Thompson fired narrowly over and Erabi headed weakly at Tickle as Preston kept up the pressure.

Clarke then headed wide from a free header before Preston finally scored the goal their efforts deserved on 51 minutes when Wiley shot home left-footed from outside the area.

Preston continued to pepper the City goal and French midfielder Leo Leroy's shot came off the far post.

The Robins woke up and Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen did well to keep out Tolaj's shot with his feet before they retook the lead when Eissat capitalised on some suspect home defending to head home Rio Cardines' free-kick.

It got worse for Preston as centre-half Liam Lindsay played in Ballard with his weak backpass and the £5m summer signing from Leyton Orient rounded Iversen to slot home his second goal for the club.

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"Listen, it's always about the results. You've heard me say over and over, the game's determined in both boxes and today was a great example of that.

"We created a lot of chances, didn't take them and they did. I felt we should have been in front at half-time, but we weren't.

"I thought we started the second half really well, missed some more chances, then scored a good goal, missed some more. Set-plays are always crucial and we made a mistake for their third goal."

Bristol City manager Michael Skubala told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I thought they had the better of the first half. We scored a good breakaway goal in transition and we looked threatening in that moment.

"We changed our shape a little bit at half-time and then I think our subs really affected the game in a positive way and our goals were really good. Our subs really punched back and that was really important for us.

"All in all, a good performance and that's what it's like sometimes in the Championship. You have to dig it out, fight well and then wait for your moments."
