Romelle Donovan scored in added time against Bolton - his first Championship goal - to give Sheffield United their first league win of the season.

The 19-year-old Brentford loanee latched onto a fine through-ball from Kalvin Phillips to fire into the roof of the net and end the Blades' run of three consecutive draws.

Bolton had twice led, through goals from Xavier Simons and Sam Dalby, but Chris Wilder's side found instant responses from Japhet Tanganga and Patrick Bamford to level.

The visitors were much the better side in the second half, but an inspired goalkeeping display by Michael Cooper kept them at bay before Donovan came up with the late sucker punch.

Both sides were on the front foot in the opening 25 minutes, after Bolton had set the tone when Dalby's first-time pass sent the excellent Thierry Gale away down the left within 23 seconds of kick-off. The winger's cross was blocked and when it popped up in the air, Simons controlled his volley into the far corner.

The Blades were level three minutes later as Sydie Peck floated a free-kick into the box and Tanganga rose above everyone to guide his header back across keeper Jack Bonham and into the corner.

Bamford had a great chance brilliantly blocked on the line by Chris Forino, and at the other end more excellent work by Gale teed up John McAtee, who miscued a big opportunity straight at defender Mark McGuinness.

Bolton were much the better side in the second half and Gale forced a fine save from Cooper, and McAtee's snap-shot fizzed inches wide of the post.

At the other end, Ben Brereton-Diaz, playing the first game of his third loan spell at Bramall Lane, placed a free header into the side netting, but the action was increasingly at the other end, and Dalby deservedly put Wanderers in front.

The big striker planted another pinpoint Gale cross into the corner, but again the lead did not last beyond the visiting fans' celebrations.

When Sam McCallum's first cross was blocked, he made sure with his second, picking out Bamford two yards out with an open goal.

Bolton stepped it up as McAtee's header was pushed onto the bar by Cooper, who also brilliantly saved from Josh Sheehan and Samuel Iling-Cooper to set up Donovan's dramatic late clincher.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I've got a proper committed group of players, as you've seen tonight.

"You saw the reaction after the first goal, in the first minute - it couldn't have gone any worse for us, and we got straight back on it and equalised straightaway.

"The reaction to the second goal, straight back on it, and then the desire to try to find the winner when it was a game of basketball and we were under the cosh.

"The reason he [Michael Cooper] was the best goalkeeper in the division two years ago is because of what he has done today.

"I'm working with the players I've got, and we have some injuries at the top end of the pitch with Ryan [One] and [Tahith] Chong."

Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher told BBC Radio Manchester:

"Saturday was a tough one to take but that was even worse, because we were away from home against a top team with top players, with a lot who have played in the Premier League.

"We're disappointed to lose the game, certainly in that manner because the goals we conceded were at really bad times, having just taken the lead, and then to concede one in the last minute when we've dominated the second half is an absolute killer.

"I told the players it's an absolute must that we get out of the dressing room with our heads held high because we can compete at this level if we play the way we did, but we have to learn quick."
