Swansea City climbed to the top of the early-season Championship table thanks to an impressive 2-0 victory over Watford.

Eom Jisung swept home an early opener before Adam Idah rolled in the second goal as Swansea turned on the style in the first half.

Victory means Swansea have 10 points from four league games and leapfrog Charlton Athletic – who play on Wednesday – and Wolverhampton Wanderers to move to the summit of the second tier for the first time in just under seven years.

Watford slip into the bottom half having lost in the second tier for the first time under new boss Alessio Dionisi.

Swansea looked in the mood from the outset, with Marko Stamenic heading Josh Tymon's corner against the post – and Joseph Opoku almost converting on the rebound – before the opening goal arrived.

Swansea's blend of high tempo and quality on the ball proved too much for Watford to handle, with home debutant Stephen Eustaquio rolling a pass through for Idah to gallop in behind before centring for Eom to finish first time from point-blank range.

It was roles reversed for the second goal, with Eom dancing into space on the halfway line before his delightful through-ball sent Idah scampering clear.

The former Celtic striker – who was once again preferred to Zan Vipotnik up front – finished in style, rolling a shot between the legs of Hornets goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia.

Watford were wobbling, though they had sights of goal before the break as Mattie Pollock and Hector Kyprianou headers drew saves from Swansea keeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

Swansea's intensity levels dropped – perhaps inevitably – in the second period, though they ought to have scored a third when substitute Melker Widell fed Eom but his shot was smothered by Ravaglia.

Widell then forced a sharp save from Ravaglia before Vigouroux denied Rocco Vata in the final minute, ensuring Swansea made it three clean sheets in four league games this season.

Having to play a league fixture on transfer deadline day was not ideal for either of these clubs, with both involved in late summer business.

The belief at Swansea is that they have had a strong window, and there was more good news for Vitor Matos with Vipotnik remaining in Wales beyond the deadline - in English football at least - after months of speculation about a possible exit.

It says something about Swansea's squad depth that last season's Championship top scorer has had little impact in their bright start to this campaign.

Though he featured as a substitute, Vipotnik may have to wait a while for a starting chance given the form of Idah, who has two league goals to his name in 2026-27.

The Republic of Ireland international was one of numerous Swansea players who impressed during a high-class first-half display which effectively settled this contest.

The story of the evening might have been different had Watford taken one of their chances, but Swansea were worthy winners.

"I am really pleased with the moment we are in. It was a really good game, especially the first half and the two goals.

"After that tiredness came in a little bit, we lost a little bit of consistency, which is normal. That's the next step, of course, trying to stay on the same level for more time.

"But I think everyone should be really pleased because of the performance and that comes own to the players and to what they are believing in and what they are putting in in terms of effort and passion. I think that's really nice to see."

Watford head coach Alessio Dionisi:

"I am not happy for this match. In possession Swansea played well and my team, in and out of possession, played badly in the first half.

"The result of the first half was right.

"In the second half my team played better. The second half was different but probably it was hard to recover.

"In football it's normal, there are good days and bad days and today was bad."
