Goals from Harry Sidwell and Josh Lundstram helped Eastleigh make a winning start to the National League season as they beat Gateshead 2-1 at Silverlake Stadium.
Sidwell opened the scoring in the 13th minute, the 19-year-old AFC Wimbledon loanee nodding home from a Max Dickov cross.
Eastleigh extended their advantage six minutes into the second half when Lundstram got on the end of a driven cross.
Gateshead did provide a late scare with a goal from Ash Boatswain, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
