Hornchurch started life in the National League with a splash as Joe Kizzi and Makai Welch scored either side of an own goal from Angus MacDonald to give them a comfortable win over Kidderminster Harriers.

It was a historic day for the Urchins, playing their first match at the highest level they have ever been, and they took a 19th-minute lead when Kizzi headed home after Ryan Inniss flicked on a corner.

The hosts doubled their lead seven minutes later when a long ball forward caused havoc, with MacDonald getting there ahead of Henry Hearn but inadvertently putting the ball past Harriers goalkeeper Dave Richards.

And Hornchurch were in dreamland when Welch collected the ball just outside the area and drilled past Richards in the 34th minute.

Henry Sandat fired wide after the interval as Hornchurch went after a fourth goal, while Kizzi headed across the crossbar but it mattered little on a remarkable afternoon for Daryl McMahon's side.
