Every carry leading up to that try was phenomenal, the leg drive the power, the Scottish defence were all over the place.

    Giordana Duca (con: Sillari)

What an effort by the hosts!

Two players down? No problem - they rumble infield with phase after phase until the lock smashes over right under the posts to give Michela Sillari a simple conversion chance.

But despite that two-player deficit, Italy push Scotland right back to their own 22!

  4. 'Scotland starting to believe'published at 17:58 BST

    Claire Thomas
    Rugby commentator on BBC iPlayer

Scottish tails up a little and just starting to believe you feel, they'll need to get back into shape.

  5. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Italy 34-7 Scotland

Scotland have about five minutes of their two-player advantage and they look reinvigorated, moving it left and right through lots of hands.

  6. 'Simple stuff done well'published at 17:54 BST

    Italy 34-7 Scotland

    Danielle Waterman
Former England international on BBC iPlayer

It's great set-piece simple stuff done well and they took their time. You could see the Scottish squeeze as a unit and push over their captain for today.

  7. converted try

Converted try - Italy 34-7 Scotlandpublished at 17:51 BST

    Lana Skeldon (con: Nelson)

The Scotland skipper is bundled over with help from Hollie Cunnigham in particular, and a great conversion from Helen Nelson will give the Scots a boost.

They still have two more players than Italy, but Giordano's yellow will stay as yellow after being adjudged to be passive in intent.

No! A brilliant tackle from Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi stopped her just inches short.

  9. Postpublished at 17:50 BST

A great run from Meryl Smith, she's scragged by the touch line and the corner flag - did she get the ball down? We go upstairs.

    Andy Burke

Scotland have made so much progress in recent years, but this feels like a throwback to the bad old days.

There is context of course. A new coaching team, some new, inexperienced players and a host of injuries to key players, but this has been a desperately disappointing display.

The Scots need to summon something to prevent this scoreline becoming even uglier than it already is.

  11. Sin-binpublished at 17:48 BST

    Italy 34-0 Scotland

There's another head to head clash, and there's another TMO check.

Elisa Giordano is also sent to the sin bin, and this one will be checked to see if it will be upgraded from yellow to red.

  12. 'Bizarre' trippublished at 17:45 BST

    Italy 34-0 Scotland

    Danielle Waterman
Former England international on BBC iPlayer

Hundred percent agree [with the penalty] such a shame. She's been phenomenal this game, why on earth she would stick her foot out to trip the player? Bizarre.

  13. Sin-binpublished at 17:44 BST

    Italy 34-0 Scotland

Italy attack to the left into Scotland's half, then a clever kick from Sofia Stefan switches play to the other side within the Scottish 22.

Scotland run it out of defence, and Veronica Madia cynically sticks her foot out to trip Fran McGhie.

There's a TMO check, and the Italy fly-half is sent to the naughty step.

  14. try

    Vittoria Vecchini

Italy win their lineout five metres from the line, they charge onwards and hooker Vittoria Vecchini cannot be stopped.

Two Significant knocks to players. Disappointing to see players leave the field. It's a huge blow but this is an opportunity for other players to step up. The captain is really going to have to galvanise this team.

Disappointing to not see that finished by D'Inca. Brilliant work shifting into the space. That would have been a real sucker-punch to the Scottish if that had got that try.

  17. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Italy 29-0 Scotland

Rachel McLachlan is helped off in tears after a nasty head on head clash, then within seconds Alex Stewart needs treatment after another blow to the head. That comes just after Italy are stopped just short of the Scottish try line when a sixth try seemed inevitable.

  18. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Italy 29-0 Scotland

It is as you were as Italy attack, lock Giordana Duca loping towards the line, then Alyssa D'Inca seems to have a hat-trick in sight until she spills the ball just as she dives for the corner.

  19. Kick-offpublished at 17:30 BST

    Italy 29-0 Scotland

And we're back under way with Italy kicking off. There's no respite in the conditions either for Scotland, the shadow of the main stand is spreading across the pitch but it's still scorching.
