Lewis Hamilton led team-mate Charles Leclerc to a Ferrari one-two in Friday practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton was 0.148 seconds ahead of Leclerc, with McLaren's Lando Norris third, 0.499secs off the pace and Red Bull's Max Verstappen fourth.

Fernando Alonso ended the day 19th fastest in the new Aston Martin after what team principal Adrian Newey said was a "promising" first outing for a car that is new apart from its engine, gearbox and front suspension.

Alonso was 2.990secs off the pace, but had a lap nearly 0.4secs faster ruled out for track limits at the final corner.

Although that is still a long way from competitiveness, it is a significant step forward from where Aston Martin have spent most of the season.

Ferrari looked in good shape, as might have been expected on a track that lends itself to the car's strong cornering performance.

Lewis Hamilton has eight pole positions and nine victories at the Hungarian Grand Prix and after finishing quickest in second practice today, can the seven-time world champion makes those stats nine and 10 by the end of the weekend?

His main challenger at the moment is team-mate Charles Leclerc, but we haven't seen what title leader Kimi Antonelli has in his locker just yet. The Italian sat out of FP1 and then failed to get a clean lap in on the softs in the second hour. The Mercedes looked a handful for both Antonelli and George Russell, so is this Ferrari's chance to shine?

Alpine have got work to do after Franco Colapinto's crash, and the investigation is ongoing over at Aston Martin to find out what the problem is with Lance Stroll's upgraded car.

We'll be back up and running from 11:15 BST tomorrow for third practice, before the fight for pole position goes green at 15:00.

Lewis Hamilton is going to end this session as the fastest man on track, banking a 1:18.729 on his flying lap on the soft tyre.

Kimi Antonelli and Lando Norris are following each other very closely on this lap.

Drivers are bouncing around all over place at the Hungaroring. Lando Norris goes rallying in his McLaren and kicks up a load of dust. The world champion is third on the timing tower, 0.499 seconds off Lewis Hamilton's best time.

Max Verstappen and Hamilton are racing already. The Dutchman goes on the inside of the Ferrari and breezes past in his Red Bull. Save it for Sunday, fellas.

Max Verstappen told his Red Bull pit wall he hit some debris with his front wing a few moments ago, with the Dutchman fourth on the timesheets.

Session leader Lewis Hamilton has dumped his soft tyres now and is completing his plan on a set of the C4 medium compound.

Liam Lawson is 10th in the drivers' championship and just three points behind Alpine's Pierre Gasly in ninth. With an upgraded Racing Bulls at his disposal this weekend, can the Kiwi driver gain a place in the standings before the summer break? He's seventh in this second practice so far.

Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, is 0.148 seconds off the pace of his Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton and has now switched to some race simulations, but still on the soft compound.

Lewis Hamilton is looking for a record-extending ninth win in Hungary this weekend. Can he do it? He's just beaten team-mate Charles Leclerc with a time of 1:18.729 on his latest soft-tyre attempt.

Hamilton said on Thursday Mercedes are still the team to topple, but championship leader Kimi Antonelli has just had another big lock-up on a flying lap. The Italian isn't knocking on the door of the frontrunners in this session down in 13th place.

The tight and twisty characteristics of the Hungaroring are said to suit Ferrari the most this weekend, so if we do get a battle between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton for the race win, who do you feel would come out on top? Left thumb for Charles, right thumb for Lewis.

Lando Norris said McLaren need "perfection" to be on the top step of the podium again but he's doing alright at the moment, sitting third on the board with a 1:19.228.

We could see another Ferrari win this weekend. Wouldn't we love to see a battle between Leclerc and Hamilton.

Kimi Antonelli takes a chunk of kerb at Turn Six as plays catch up on the soft tyre. The Italian ends up aborting his lap after running wide at the end of the lap, so he's now stuck outside the top 10 in 11th spot.

Charles Leclerc does complete his hot lap and the Ferrari man jumps above world champion Lando Norris with a 1:18.877.

Lewis Hamilton is next to the cross the line and while he can't quite beat Leclerc to the top spot, there is only 0.037 seconds between the Scuderia team-mates.

We still can't see what Kimi Antonelli can do on the soft tyre. That is frustrating.

Cars have emerged at the Hungaroring and it's time ti bank some fast laps once again.

Lando Norris is quickest so far of the few drivers who managed to get a time in before Franco Colapinto's shunt, followed by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli had to abort his flying lap when Franco Colapinto crashed out, so the Italian is down in ninth on the timesheets. The clock is ticking down and the track is quiet.

Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto has made it safely back to the Alpine garage. The final corner, like the Turn One, has caused headaches for a few drivers already today.

The red flag is out and Franco Colapinto has come to a stop. The Argentine has crashed into the barriers at the final corner after he lost the rear of his Alpine.

Colapinto is OK and is now climbing out of his car. The session is halted while the marshals clear the stricken Alpine but hopefully, we'll be back under way shortly.
