  1. Liverpool 3-1 Crystal Palace - the fans' verdictpublished at 08:58 BST 27 April

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

Here are some of your comments:

    Liverpool fans

Steve: Still not a great watch. However, injuries are forcing the selection at the moment. Results around us are going in our favour, which will probably save Slot. Still very uneasy being one of the teams in the Premier league covering the least ground.

Keith: Finally managing to find the net in the past few games is making all the difference, as is a tighter set-up defending set-pieces. We're still far too easy to play through and had zero pressure on the ball often in the game. It was a lot more even than the score suggests - however, the referee stopping the game every time Palace's number 10 fell over when we were on the break, but failing to do when Woodman was clearly injured, didn't endear himself to the crowd. Two fantastic goals from Robbo and Wirtz sent us home happy and probably into the Champions League next season.

Christian: Slot IN! Despite everything that's happened this year, we are in with a shout of finishing third. Excellent performance. Essential points. A day in the sun for Liverpool, literally and figuratively.

John: It is worrying that Liverpool seem to be considering keeping Slot as manager. His style of football is so boring and hard to watch for supporters. Surely the hierarchy are listening to supporters and looking to change the manager to someone who will ask his players to work hard, press high and play quicker. The crowd was so quiet and that was down to the way we were playing. No intensity, no pressing, no creativity. We want a team that plays exciting football please.

    Palace fans

Al: Strong display ruined by profligate finishing, which is a theme throughout this season. Shakhtar away next could be a defining moment in a season that has been topsy-turvy but still promises silverware.

Paul: Can't believe a Liverpool manager complaining about decisions going against them. Over the years they have had a ridiculous run of the green. Far too may players go down (usually holding their heads) to get play stopped. This time the keeper (who had been excellent btw) goes down after a save and Munoz rightly slots it home (not that easy either). Woodman then makes an instant recovery and plays the rest of the game with no issue.

Robin: A good display. More shots and more on target than Liverpool, who had only three on target and three goals. That's the difference in quality.

Marcus: Andy Madley's performance really needs to be looked at as it was one of the worst I've seen this season. So many decisions given to Liverpool which were laughable, but it appears if you scream loud enough then you'll get a free-kick. Liverpool were very, very lucky.

  2. Analysis: More shots, more attempts on target, no pointspublished at 18:21 BST 25 April

Crystal Palace were bidding to become the first club to defeat Liverpool four times in one season.

After winning a penalty shootout against the Reds in the Community Shield, Oliver Glasner's side had also won the two meetings between the clubs in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

It looked like Palace were out of this after conceding twice in five minutes towards the end of the first half.

But Daniel Munoz's goal left Liverpool edgy, with Palace having more shots and registering more attempts on target as they threw everything at the hosts.

Despite this defeat, Palace's season is very much alive and they will now start preparing for Thursday's Conference League semi-final first leg against Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland.

  3. Liverpool 3-1 Crystal Palace: What Glasner saidpublished at 17:30 BST 25 April

    Media caption,

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to Sky Sports: "The difference was the efficiency. Liverpool were clinical, and we were not. The goalkeeper had the day of his life, so congrats to him. We kept believing until the end. It was really positive, and this is what we take into the final weeks."

On Daniel Munoz's goal: "It was a difficult situation because he made a big save but the ball goes to Munoz. Everything goes so quickly. He could continue the game until the end and that's why we think it was the right decision. I think that is was OK.

"When you watch it on TV. It's on the edge, to be honest. He makes the save, then tries to get up then he raises his arm but Munoz is already taking the finish. If he hits his head then the game has to be stopped. It was the right decision I think.

"I told them that I think it was our best performance here against Liverpool. We were very competitive here today. I showed them the stats. 2-0 down at half-time, you could say we rest our power for the Conference League semi-final and maybe lose 4-0 or something. This performance will give us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season."

    Did you know?

    • Crystal Palace's non-penalty xG total (2.32) is the biggest by a visiting side at Anfield in all competitions this season, and the biggest since Arsenal's 2.58 in May last season.

    • Crystal Palace have lost five of their last eight Premier League away games (W2 D1), one more than in their previous 23 matches on the road in the competition (W12 D7).

  7. Sutton's predictions: Liverpool v Crystal Palacepublished at 11:04 BST 25 April

Chris Sutton smiling on a yellow and black background with 'Sutton's predictions' written below his face

I watched Liverpool win at Hill Dickinson Stadium last week and they got away with it.

Virgil van Dijk's 100th-minute winner was harsh on Everton and harsh on me too - I would have had the BBC predictions title wrapped up again if the score had stayed at 1-1 and I could have been celebrating already.

The result was what mattered for Reds boss Arne Slot, though, not the performance. I mentioned last week how Slot really needs a strong end to the campaign and to secure Champions League football for next season and another win here would move them even closer to that.

All the noise coming out of Anfield doesn't indicate there is going to be a managerial change come the end of the season, but that can always change if results drop off - look at what happened to Liam Rosenior at Chelsea.

It would not surprise me if Crystal Palace went to Anfield and won because they have done it already this season and appear well-suited to playing Liverpool.

The Eagles have already got the better of them three times this season - on penalties at Wembley to decide the Community Shield, in the Premier League at Selhurst Park and then at Anfield in the Carabao Cup.

Palace are over their mid-season blip too but, on the flip side, they don't have much to play for in the league now they are essentially safe.

They may also have Europe on their mind, because the Conference League gives them a chance of another trophy and they play Shakhtar on Thursday.

But Liverpool are far from convincing at the moment - Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz look miles off it - so why I do I still feel myself edging towards Liverpool here?

  8. Liverpool v Crystal Palace: Key stats and talking pointspublished at 19:28 BST 24 April

Liverpool look to move a step closer to Champions League qualification against a Crystal Palace side they have failed to beat in all three of their meetings so far this season. BBC Sport takes a look at the key themes ahead of Saturday's fixture (15:00 BST).

Eagles proving to be Liverpool's bogey team

Crystal Palace have been a thorn in Liverpool's side this season with the Eagles unbeaten in all three of their encounters across three different competitions.

Their 3-0 victory at Anfield in the League Cup was particularly galling for the Reds and means the south Londoners have the chance to become the first team since Arsenal in 2006-07 to win away at Liverpool twice in the same season.

A victory would also mark only their third league double over the Reds and the first time they have beaten the reigning champions of the English top flight twice in the same season.

They travel to Merseyside in great form having gone four league games unbeaten and having lost just one of their last eight in all competitions. Their goalless draw with West Ham on Monday may have been their sixth 0-0 of the season, but a 12th clean sheet is a figure that can only be surpassed in the top flight by Arsenal and Manchester City.

In fact, since Oliver Glasner's first game in charge in February 2024, only the Gunners (36) and City (32) have more shutouts in the league than Palace's 28.

Graphic showing which Premier League sides have made the most clean sheets since Oliver Glasner took over at Crystal Palace

Glasner's side will of course have one eye on the first leg of Thursday's Europa Conference League semi-final away at Shakhtar Donetsk as they target a second major trophy in their history, a mere year after they won their first.

They left Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr on bench for their match with the Hammers on Monday and it remains to be seen if Glasner will take a similar course of action at Anfield. Liverpool fans will be hoping that Sarr stays unused given he has already scored four goals against them this season.

Liverpool edge closer to Champions League spot

Liverpool's stunning late win over Everton on their Hill Dickinson debut - allied to Chelsea's woeful run of form - means Arne Slot's side remain in pole position for a Champions League place. They are five points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with a game in hand and may be grateful for that buffer given their next three fixtures come against Manchester United (a), Chelsea (h) and Aston Villa (a).

After a sticky patch of three league games without a win, back-to-back victories have eased the pressure somewhat on Slot.

The fact it took until the 99th minute to decide their derby with Everton should come as no surprise given the late drama that has followed them around this season.

It was the ninth 90th-minute winning goal scored in Liverpool's Premier League fixtures this campaign with four going their way and five ending in defeats. Incredibly that is two more than in any other team's matches across a season in Premier League history.

Graphic showing that Liverpool have had the most 90th winners scored in their matches - both for and against - this season

In goal could be third-choice keeper Freddie Woodman, who made his first league appearance for Liverpool off the bench against Everton. In what was a sensational weekend for his family, his dad Andy, who manages Bromley, celebrated promotion to League One for the first time in their history. Both Freddie and Andy started their footballing careers in Crystal Palace's academy.

  9. Glasner on Wharton's return, Liverpool and his successorpublished at 12:41 BST 24 April

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield (kick-off 15:00 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Adam Wharton will be available after missing Monday's draw against West Ham with a groin problem: "Adam is good. He is fit and trained yesterday without any issues."

    • A late call will be made on Nathaniel Clyne's availability: "One question mark we have is Nathaniel. He was ill yesterday, but then was better in the evening. He's being assessed at the moment, but hopefully he is available."

    • Glasner has no fresh fitness issues in his squad: "All the others are the same, so we've got no new injury concerns, which is good news. Of course, the two injuries we still have are Eddie Nketiah and Evann Guessand. So they will miss this game."

    • Will next Thursday's Conference league semi-final first leg affect his approach as Anfield?: "No. Saturday to Thursday feels like a very long spell between. We are just preparing the players for the Liverpool game. We have the opportunity to beat Liverpool four times in one season which is unique. We are really highly motivated because maybe this will never happen again and it is a massive chance."

    • Has he got any information as to who may replace him as Palace boss?: "Wrong person to ask this question. I am not involved in finding my successor. You will have to ask the chairman. I do not know what is going on behind the scenes."

    • More on his goals for the remainder of his time with the Eagles: "We are focused with five weeks to go, a lot to achieve not just in the Premier League. We want to finish with a five at the start of the points because it would mean the last two years have been the best two Premier League seasons regarding points in Crystal Palace's history. Besides that, winning at least two trophies - hopefully we can add another one. For me, this would be a lovely ending to the story."

    • Will Saturday's opponents have extra motivation after losing three times to Palace already this season?: "Liverpool want to qualify for the Champions League. They don't need this motivation. They are a Champions League team and that will be their motivation. A home game against Crystal Palace - they will say they need these three points to achieve their goal."

    • On a chance to qualify for Europe through both league position and winning the Conference League: "It's always better to have two than none. On the other side, I can't praise the team enough for their mentality, their character their work ethic, their attitude and the spirit we have here. They are always sticking together and working really hard. I think here together we created a great environment for everybody. Enjoying what you are doing is one requirement for being successful, then an intrinsic motivation to get better."

  10. Fletcher's keeper decision backfires as Palace win U18 cuppublished at 23:09 BST 22 April

Darren Fletcher's decision to swap his goalkeepers for the penalty shoot-out backfired as Crystal Palace lifted the Premier League Under-18 cup by beating Manchester United 6-5 on spot-kicks.

United thought they had won it as they led with the game in stoppage time thanks to Noah Ajayi's first-half effort.

However, the entire contest turned on its head as Palace striker Ben Casey, who had already gone close twice earlier in the contest, got the wrong side of the visitors defence, and Albert Mills panicked and brought him down.

Casey drove home the equaliser from the penalty spot, with Mills watching on in despair from the mouth of the tunnel in the corner of the stadium, his dismissal forcing United to play through extra-time with 10-men.

United held firm for the additional 30 minutes, although it needed a brilliant save from Cameron Byrne-Hughes to keep Palace out.

Byrne-Hughes has been first choice all season but with two minutes of injury-time shown, Fletcher elected to bring on Shrewsbury-born Freddie Heath, who went to Maynooth with the senior squad earlier this month for the four-day training camp.

Sadly for the visitors, Heath was unable to get near any of Palace's penalties and, in sudden death, Lucca Benetton's save from Godwill Kukonki proved decisive.

United, who beat Palace in the FA Youth Cup last Friday, to set up a final clash with Manchester City, only had themselves to blame.

They had numerous chances to get a second, with Chido Obi hitting the bar with the best opportunity, while Jay McEvoy also failed to convert a glorious chance to win it in extra time.

  11. 'Canvot's development has been rapid'published at 13:43 BST 21 April

All eyes were on Selhurst Park when West Ham visited on Monday. Were they driven purely by Spurs-schadenfreude, or a pure love of the Premier League? We cannot say for certain. Although we can lightly speculate that only Crystal Palace and Tottenham fans had a vested interest in south London defeating east.

Naturally, the dampest of damp squibs was duly delivered. As only Burnley have scored fewer goals at home in the league this season, perhaps it is not completely surprising - even if the club has been in good form.

However, as an avid point-respector and defensive-football advocate, it is worth giving some credit to those players in the back line in such a stalemate.

It was only at the start of March that I had discussed the patience that may be required with leaning on a young defender, Jaydee Canvot. Seven weeks on, that thought process may have been far too cautious.

Having clocked over 1,000 minutes across all competitions since the start of February, his development has been rapid. Looking at players born in 2006 or later, only six in the Premier League have played more minutes this season. Given that list contains talents such as Newcastle's Lewis Miley and Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi, it is not bad company to be in at this stage.

The improvement has been on two fronts.

Firstly, the partnership with Tyrick Mitchell on the left side of the defence, as shown against Jarrod Bowen, has been capable of matching up with threats down that flank in tandem - something that was always taken for granted when Marc Guehi was in that spot.

More impressive have been the improvements displayed in possession, especially as Oliver Glasner's formation places a lot of pressure on the outside centre-backs to progress the ball. The growth and confidence in that area have been encouraging, a stark contrast to the start of the season.

  12. Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham - the fans' verdictpublished at 10:50 BST 21 April

    Your opinions graphic

    This content isn't available anymore.

    There was an error

We asked for your thoughts after Monday's Premier League game between Crystal Palace and West Ham United at Selhurst Park.

Here are some of your comments:

    Crystal Palace fans

Al: A dour draw against a fighting West Ham side. I'm worried about Brennan Johnson, he looks lost and out of confidence. Perhaps a break before next season will help. Another game of seeing Jaydee Canvot getting better and better. Anfield up next against a shaky Liverpool, which might just be ideal for Palace.

Richard: Humdrum stuff from Palace, but teams in West Ham's position can be hard to play against. Johnson did himself no favours with that miss though. Dean Henderson's save was worth the admission though. I'm not grumbling after Thursday.

D Lowe: If Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta had started, this was a game Palace should've won. I'm not happy that two points were lost. We fielded a weaker team at the start, which is never good. Canvot has definitely replaced Marc Guehi, and he still has years of playing time.

Dave: The performance was kind of expected from Palace. It was a good point against a fired up West Ham. We missed Adam Wharton and we were too slow in transition. The substitutes made an impact in the second half, but we didn't do enough to win the match. I'm really pleased we didn't get any new injuries as the main focus is the Europa Conference League game!

    West Ham fans

Chris: I can't help feeling it was a missed opportunity for three points, but it was still a good and confidence-building performance. Jarrod Bowen was kept quiet by their left-back and Crysencio Summerville isn't back to his best. So while the defence claims another clean sheet, there's better to come up front. It just has to happen soon.

Sue: It's so frustrating watching at the moment. They are playing well but they can't seem to score. They have to keep going and keep thinking positively. A point away to Palace is a good effort.

Norbet: We didn't have the decisive edge to win against Palace, who had no motivation and no chance of gaining European football. It's looking decidedly like the Championship beckons for a poor West Ham side.

James: Very cagey but the old adage of 'if you can't win then don't lose' comes to mind. If a point is all it takes for survival come the final day, this will be priceless.

Bubba: If only we had played like this throughout the whole season. It remains to be seen if this turnaround will be sufficient enough or too little too late. I hope the fans who worked to get David Moyes out are admitting, at least to themselves, that they are responsible for our current predicament.

  13. Canvot impresses in resolute Palace defencepublished at 23:16 BST 20 April

    Sam Drury
    BBC Sport journalist

After the joyous celebrations that followed qualifying for the Conference League semi-finals on Thursday, it was back to the grind for Crystal Palace.

And for much of the game, that is what it was for Palace - a grind.

But while Oliver Glasner made four changes to the team that started at Fiorentina, they all came further up the pitch as he stuck with his trusted goalkeeper and back five.

The outcome was a 12th clean sheet of the season to extend the Eagles' unbeaten run in the league to four games.

Dean Henderson's superb save and Maxence Lacroix's block were the vital moments in ensuring another shutout but the efforts of 19-year-old Jaydee Canvot to limit the threat of West Ham talisman Jarrod Bowen were even more impressive.

At the other end, it was another frustrating night for £35m January signing Brennan Johnson and it was only when Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta came on that Palace started to cause West Ham consistent problems.

While three points would have put Palace right in the mix of the battle for European qualification, a draw keeps them within striking distance and, having experienced the feeling of going deep in Europe this term, their hunger to get back there is only likely to grow.

  14. Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham: What Glasner saidpublished at 22:25 BST 20 April

    Media caption,

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Maybe both [a good and bad point]. At the end i felt we were closer to winning than losing, but on the other side with all the circumstances and how good West Ham are, the performance was absolutely OK.

"It was not our best performance. In the final third, maybe we were not clinical enough, we had many crosses that were not accurate. I felt that we had a bit more energy at the end which is strange because of how many games we have played. That is what I really liked, the commitment of the team."

On visible frustration on the touchline: "I felt like it was a game to win. The areas they gave us, we didn't really take them well enough. We defended very well so credit to the team. [West Ham's] biggest threat was the set-plays. From open play we more or less controlled everything - but in possession we moved the ball a bit too slow. Also credit to West Ham who defended the box very well.

"I think at our best we could have won the game. Maybe Nuno says the same."

On Brennan Johnson's struggles: "It was a good step today, he was a constant threat. It was his best game out of possession. Everybody has to be patient. It's a new system for him, he plays for inside, more as a 10. He has to get used to these areas. His performance today gives me confidence that he will score goals."

Will you sacrifice players in the league for European football? "No. They will have two days of rest before Liverpool, then we start preparing. Five days after is the semi-final. We will be fresh, enough time. Maybe after the first leg we have to rotate, but as long as the players are in shape we will keep playing the freshest players and minds."

    Did you know?

    • This was Crystal Palace's sixth goalless draw in the Premier League this season, the most by a side since Newcastle United in 2022-23 (7).

    • Crystal Palace recorded their 12th clean sheet of the season, only keeping more in a Premier League campaign in 1994-95 (15). Since Oliver Glasner's first game in February 2024, only Arsenal (36) and Manchester City (32) have more shutouts in the league than Palace's 28.

  15. Crystal Palace v West Ham: Team newspublished at 19:02 BST 20 April

    Crystal Palace line-up.

Oliver Glasner makes four changes to the Crystal Palace XI that started at Fiorentina on Thursday.

Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes come into the midfield, with Brennan Johnson and Jorgen Strand Larsen brought into the front three.

Adam Wharton is out with an adductor injury, while Daichi Kamada, Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta drop to the bench.

Crystal Palace XI: Henderson, Richards, Lacroix, Canvot, Munoz, Lerma, Hughes, Mitchell, Johnson, Pino, Strand Larsen.

Subs: Benitez, Sarr, Mateta, Clyne, Kamada, Sosa, Riad, Devenny, Cardines.

Nuno Espirito Santo sticks with the same XI that started West Ham's convincing 4-0 win over Wolves last time out.

It is nine days since that game so the Hammers should be fresh for what is a crucial game in their battle to avoid relegation.

West Ham XI: Hermansen, Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Disasi, Diouf, Bowen, Fernandes, Soucek, Summerville, Pablo, Castellanos.

Subs: Areola, Wilson, Traore, Todibo, Magassa, Wan-Bissaka, Scarles, Potts, Kante.

Chris Sutton smiling on a yellow and black background with 'Sutton's predictions' written below his face

This is a big game for West Ham and, by the time they play it, they will know how all of their relegation rivals got on over the weekend.

As well as being important, this is a tough game for the Hammers too. Crystal Palace left it very late to beat Newcastle but they have now taken seven points from their past three games and seem to have found some form again.

The Eagles are safe but I am still a little bit worried about West Ham. Yes they played well against Wolves last time out, but they were very nervy until they took the lead.

This is going to be tense for them too. I don't say this about many of my predictions, but I am pretty certain about how this will end up - with the points shared.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1
