Manchester City need to push it on if they are to advance to the final, that's for sure.

Dull as dishwater, no pace, poor passing, no penetration. At least three changes at half-time, please Pep.

I can tell you now, Ian, there have been no changes on either side.

Brilliant defending from Nathan Ake, but Tom Fellows has got to get his shot away quicker.

    Man City 0-0 Southampton

Almost a dream start for Southampton but a really good bit of defending from Nathan Ake denies Tom Fellows after he had been played through by Finn Azaz.

    Man City 0-0 Southampton

For the first time in any match this season, Southampton have gone a full half of football without recording a shot.

They did, however, have that early goal ruled out for offside.

And it's not been great at the other end either with Manchester City recording their lowest xG tally (0.27) in the first half of a game since their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Salford (0.11).

Back under way at Wembley. Let's hope for a bit more excitement, eh?

    Wayne Rooney
Former Man Utd striker on BBC One

I think Phil Foden is playing in a position where he is trying to get on the ball, but Southampton have defended really well. He is floating around, he is all over the pitch and he is trying to get space.

    HT: Man City 0-0 Southampton

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC One

It is just the final pass. Southampton have been brilliant. They defended in numbers, and they knew the exact time to go. It is the last moment when they are just rushing a little bit. Can they keep the intensity up? It is a hot day, City have all the subs that can change the game.

I'm not a City fan, but given the emotions of the last seven days, it seems unsurprising they are looking a bit lacklustre today. The football calendar is a brutal thing...

You are always going to soak the pressure. City are always going to dominate the ball and you respect that. What is great about this Southampton team is they are all working hard for each other.

  12. 'Southampton have been excellent'published at 18:13 BST

    HT: Man City 0-0 Southampton

    Wayne Rooney
Former Man Utd striker on BBC One

I think Southampton have been excellent. Man City should be quicker with their tempo, but Southampton have got numbers back and made it difficult for City to create chances. Southampton have been in some dangerous positions. A bit more care with the final pass and they could be going in with one goal.

Big mistake from Pep not starting Haaland. City just don’t look as clinical without him.

    HT: Man City 0-0 Southampton

    Alan Shearer
Former Southampton striker on BBC One

I thought Southampton were the better team, and they defended well when they had to. City, I think, were too slow. Players not playing too many games, looking rusty and that is exactly what has happened to them.

That's that. Frustrating and a bit pedestrian from Manchester City. Southampton defensively solid.

Phil Foden has got the defender where he wants him. It is good defending, but you expect better from Phil Foden in that situation.
