Fleetwood fought from behind to maintain their unbeaten start to the League Two campaign with a draw at Newport County.

Christian Doidge opened the scoring with his first goal for the Newport who should have been further ahead by the time Aaron Loupalo-Bi levelled.

The Cod Army substitute, who played under County boss Hayden Mullins last season at Fulham, made Newport pay when he scored five minutes after entering.

Fleetwood have now drawn four of their first six games of the season, while Newport remain unbeaten at home.

Newport set the tone from the off and should have been ahead after two minutes, but Doidge failed to sort his feet in time to convert from close range.

Further early chances went begging as Kyle Cameron headed off target from close range and fellow defender Cameron Norman flashed over 20 minutes later.

Mullins' charges continued to dominate, and racked up no fewer than six good first-half chances before Doidge finally found the breakthrough.

The summer signing, who had missed the last two games with injury, slotted home from a few yards out at the end of a slick back-to-front Newport attack.

Newport remained on top after the break, but were made to rue missed opportunities when substitute Loupalo-Bi poked Fleetwood level.

Both Newport and Fleetwood enjoyed pressure after the scores were level, but neither side could find a late winner for their efforts at Rodney Parade.

Newport County manager Hayden Mullins told BBC Radio Wales:

"The performance in the first half and from the start of the second half is something that we have got to build on.

"Playing at home, we want to bring a bit of energy and bring the crowd along with us. I felt we did that for large periods.

"We created a lot of action in their goalmouth, which was good. It was a bad goal to concede, and it came at a time when we felt momentum was shifting their way.

"Fleetwood are a good side. They are unbeaten in this division, and for large parts of that game we looked like the team who were on top."
