Saints be praised, but things looking up for Townpublished at 22:40 BST 28 April
FT: Southampton 2-2 Ipswich
Image source, ShutterstockWhen you witness a 45 minutes like that, all you can do is wonder why anyone would want to get out of the Championship?
A wonderful advert for the division, and huge credit must go to both clubs.
Saints had to win, of course, but Ipswich could have parked the bus and relied on their final day home game with QPR to get their business done.
They did nothing of the sort. The second half was like a fight from a Rocky film, blow after blow being landed, legs wobbling but no towels being thrown.
Ipswich came within inches of a goal which would have all-but ensured their return to the Premier League in the final seconds, but will be firm favourites to seal the deal in 62 hours from now.
Saints went up via the play-offs two years ago, they gave it a good crack at Wembley three days ago, and nobody will want to face them in the play-offs on this form, that is for sure.
Thanks for your company and all your messages tonight.
Get some rest now, we're going to need it... we go again on Saturday lunchtime.
