Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Postpublished at 12:05 BST

It was the best possible start for England and Ollie Robinson as the seamer, who took three wickets in the first over of his Test comeback at Lord's earlier this summer, struck first ball.

A full delivery, nipping back in to Azan Awais and there was little the left-hander could do. Up went the umpire's finger and the Pakistan opener, after an unsuccessful review, was on his way...

There were two balls shy of 10 overs possible before the rain arrived at Headingley - and England will be thrilled with how they went.

That, in large part, is down to another superb spell from Ollie Robinson.

We can only hope that this is just a passing shower but the rain is coming down pretty heavily at the moment.

Full covers in place and it looks pretty grim in Leeds.

Test cricket is back. There is rain in England. All is well in the world.

And that's it for the time being!

As that review was taking place, the heavens have opened and the covers are coming on.

Good start for England, albeit having lost two reviews, but they'll have to wait to continue it.

That's an excellent decision by the umpire. It looked like a really good appeal.

  7. Not outpublished at 9.4 overs

    Pak 19-2

No bat involved, the ball flicked the back leg of Abdullah Shafique.

England were convinced by the noise but it was an excellent on-field decision. They did check for lbw as well but the ball was going well over the top.

    Another review lost.

I think he might have hit this, inside edge maybe.

Everybody's moved but the umpire just stood still. Everybody in the England side was convinced.

  10. England reviewpublished at 9.4 overs

    Pak 19-2

England think they've got another one and quickly call for another review.

They think Gus Atkinson has found Abdullah Shafique's inside edge. We shall see...

It feels like once an over, Ollie Robinson is finding the outside edge. He's getting enough out of the surface where the batters are going to be uncomfortable facing him.

The rain clouds are looming and Joe Root is signaling for his fielders to hurry through between overs.

Well, Rob Key is still involved Alex so perhaps he's learned from past mistakes?

More good bowling from Ollie Robinson, in any case, as he switches back to round the wicket and gets another just past Imam-ul-Haq's edge.

He finds it last ball but it falls short of the slips and sneaks through for four.

More proof you don't need to bowl 90mph+ if you can move the ball and bowl with control. Rob Key got it badly wrong for the last few years.

    Beauty from Gus Atkinson.

He pushes the ball that bit fuller to Adbullah Shafique and is so nearly rewarded.

It shapes away pleasingly but snakes past the outside edge as the batter pushes forward.

It's raining steadily in Ilkley at the moment, but then again it chucked it down in Leeds the other week (that Hundred match that was somewhat delayed) and didn't rain a drop here, so may be ok.

I live two miles down the road from Headingley and the rain has started coming down hard.

Ollie Robinson is such a good bowler. He had a wonderful time at Lord's, picked up that niggle but there's absolutely no question about this man's ability to bowl in any form of cricket.

He's got a point to prove about his fitness in this series.

  18. Pak 11-2published at 7 overs

Maiden over from Ollie Robinson, his first of the morning, as he stays over the wicket to Imam-ul-Haq.

Immaculate line from the England seamer but the Pakistan opener is solid in his defence after being rapped on the glove to start the over.

    Well George (and others)...

In his first stint as captain (as well as his interim earlier this year), 24% of Root's reviews have been successful - only Andrew Strauss had a better record.

    • Strauss 25%
    • Root 24%
    • Cook 23%
    • Stokes 18%

Just four from Gus Atkinson's first over but Abdullah Shafique does produce another impressive bit of batting with a very brave leave.

The ball nips back from Atkinson, Shafique leaves on length and it fizzes just a couple of centimetres over the top of the stumps.
