Shrewsbury Town have signed Leicester City midfielder Michael Golding on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old started his career with Chelsea, coming through the youth teams at Stamford Bridge and making his only first-team appearance as a substitute in an FA Cup tie in January 2024.

He moved to the Foxes that summer on a "long-term contract" for a fee of about £4m and made his debut at the end of the 2024-25 campaign as City were relegated from the Premier League.

Golding, Shrewsbury's ninth signing of the current window, will help fill the gap in midfield left by the injured Jack Price, who is out for several weeks with a hamstring issue.

"We're really excited and appreciative of Leicester, how they have accommodated the move," Town head coach Gavin Cowan told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He's been on our radar for a while. He's a young guy who wants to reignite his career and will be a really good addition."

BBC Radio Shropshire have also reported that Shrewsbury are close to agreeing a loan deal to sign young Burnley striker Kian McMahon-Brown.

Last season's academy player of the year signed a two-year contract extension this summer with Burnley, where former Town chief executive Matt Williams is the chief operating officer.

Derby County have submitted a bid to Leicester City for Bangladesh international Hamza Choudhury with the Foxes keen to offload the 28-year-old midfielder from their wage bill. (Leicester Mercury), external

Wrexham are in talks with Leicester City to sign Australian centre-back Harry Souttar. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to a number of clubs including Sheffield United, who are said to be put off by the £10m asking price. (Sky Sports), external

Leicester City midfielder Conor Chaplin said there are "loads" of positive things the club can take from their Carabao Cup second round defeat by Premier League Ipswich Town.

Chaplin, a summer signing from the Tractor Boys where he won promotion three times in five seasons, made his Foxes debut in Tuesday's tie at Portman Road.

Despite Leicester's 3-1 loss, Chaplin said they should not be too down after having 57% of possession and 22 shots against the top-flight side.

"We definitely don't want to be a football club, a team or a group of staff that is happy with any defeat but I think we can really be proud and take huge, huge steps from the way we played," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

"We've come to a Premier League side with amazing players, and controlled a lot of the game.

"I think the learnings will be the final pass - we need to be more ruthless but it's the hardest part of the game

"The bravery we showed and coming away to a place like this it was top and something to build on - we've set the stall there now."

The Foxes have made a disappointing start following relegation to League One last season after taking one point from their first two games in the third tier under new boss Russell Martin.

"I don't think we've been at where we want to be at for the first two league games," Chaplin added.

"I think that's been evident. But that's something [the Ipswich performance] to come back on and say 'this is the level'.

"But that will take time with different players and learning each other. I know it's hard to say that but it's a brutal honest truth.

"It's our job on the training pitch to make that time as short as possible."

Leicester travel to MK Dons hoping to secure their first league win of the season on Saturday.

Ipswich Town manager Gary O'Neil believes Leicester City will be "coming here to leave some marks on us" when the two sides meet at Portman Road in the Carabao Cup second round on Tuesday (19:45 BST).

The two teams had very different fates in the Championship last season, with the Tractor Boys claiming promotion and the Foxes suffering relegation.

"The gap is a lot closer than it looks," O'Neil said. "We were both in the same division last year and we played each other twice, so we are familiar with each other.

"Leicester City also have a Premier League coach in Russell Martin, who has been in the top flight with Southampton and plays a good style of football.

"It will be a really tough game for us, especially coming off the back of something as high as this win over Sunderland.

"We need to make sure we reset and we are down to earth. Leicester City won't care that have beaten Sunderland, they will be coming here to leave some marks on us and we need to be ready for that.

"It is an important game for us. I just want to keep winning. This is a strong group and I feel we are in a good place.

"We have added to the squad a lot, of course, so there will be an ability to rotate. We will pick a team we think can win. We will try to freshen things up a bit, though, because we have a big week ahead and some of the lads weren't 100% already."

On long-serving duo Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin returning to Portman Road after making permanent moves to King Power Stadium this summer, O'Neil said: "It is a great draw for them and the guys that know them.

"We were obviously planning to keep Wes Burns but when he got the offer that he did and he was interested in it, we didn't want to stand in his way as such a servant to this football club.

"It will be good for the fans to welcome those guys back, as I'm sure they will."

Middlesbrough have joined Rangers in the hunt for Leicester winger Stephy Mavididi, 28, who is valued at around £7m. (Football League World, external)
