But because of that brilliant clearance in the previous frame, Mark has kept himself in it.

Barry Hawkins compiles a splendid break of 89 to give himself a four-frame lead at the end of this extraordinary session.

The final session of this match will begin at 19:00 BST on Saturday.

It feels like Barry Hawkins is starting to break the back of this now.

Mark Williams could have a mountain to climb tomorrow.

It's been a hard day at the office and it looks like Barry Hawkins is going to have plenty to show for it.

After a cagey opening to this frame Barry Hawkins is moving up through the gears.

He's currently on a break of 45.

In case you are wondering, that 62-minute 14th frame is not the longest in Crucible history.

That dubious honour is held by Mark Selby and Yan Bingtao.

The 22nd frame of their second round match in 2022 lasted 85 minutes and 22 seconds.

We talk about why John Higgins, Ronnie and Mark Williams are still around - they are just the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen.

He has been poor tonight, made so many mistakes and not looked like stringing anything together.

He was 5-9 down, backs against the wall and looking like his Championship was over, but from somewhere he finds that clearance.

He can!

Mark Williams pots the pink and sets himself up perfectly to sink the black for a break of 54 and to win the frame 59-58.

Just over 10 minutes for that frame. One more to go before the end of this session.

Barry Hawkins strains to try to pot a black but the cue ball jumps up.

He builds a break of 29 but misses a long pot on pink to allow Mark Williams to try to overturn a 53-point deficit.

Can the Welshman pull it off?

It's been frustrating, but Barry Hawkins won't mind even though he would like to win prettier.

He's got a chance to take a big lead.

Mark Williams pots the white and he concedes.

What an amazing display of tactical snooker, with both payers performing gymnastics to escape some brilliant safety shots.

If ever there was a frame to illustrate how snooker is about much more than just potting balls, then this was it.

Barry Hawkins is firmly in control now.

Hawkins misses a long pot on green to secure the frame, before somehow escaping Mark William's brilliant attempt to snooker him.

We're past the 55-minute mark now on this frame.

The Crucible is a great sight, inside and out, day and night.

Everyone that comes here has to get a picture of the outside of the building all lit up after dark.

There are still plenty of people watching along from the seats in the nearby Tudor Square on the big screen. They’ve been there a while.

Williams hits the yellow on the third attempt, then looks to sink it on a long pot but it does't go in. At least it's not potable for Hawkins.

We're up to 43 minutes in this frame but on we go.

For the first time in this match, Barry Hawkins makes a few mistakes.

First he gets a safety shot wrong and sets Mark Williams up for a visit of 32. Hawkins then costs himself a pot on a colour when potting a red.

Hawkins goes 10 points ahead but covers the yellow when he looked set to clear up.

Williams is now snookered with the black practically covering the yellow - he twice tries to sneak past it but fouls both times.
