Newport County's bid for League Two survival is in their own destiny after Bobby Kamwa scored minutes after missing an injury-time penalty to beat ten-man Oldham Athletic.

Kamwa – who had opened the scoring brilliantly in a breathless game full of incident – saw his 115th spot-kick saved by Tom Donaghy.

But he then pounced four minutes later to move Newport out of the relegation places going into the final weekend of the season.

Newport travel to bottom of the table Barrow next Saturday knowing a win will guarantee their EFL survival.

A draw could be enough if results go their way, although no Exiles fan will want to go through the drama of this game that saw Oldham, eventually, lose for the fourth time in a row.

With the game delayed because of lengthy treatment for injured Latics keeper Matthew Hudson, Donaghy came on and pulled off a number of key saves to protect the visitors' point.

Making his league debut, the 23-year-old then reacted and dived the right way as Kamwa looked to win the game from the spot having been fouled in the area.

But then the drama of the final seconds, Kamwa racing through and finding the composure he had lacked from 12 yards, slotting home.

Kamwa had kicked off the day's drama, driving forward on nine minutes, cutting inside and curling into the far, top corner.

But Oldham – who fought with intent despite their mid-table comfort – rallied and took advantage of County's latest defensive lapses.

First Will Sutton glanced home a 29th minute Ryan Woods delivery, then Dynel Smieu hooked home from close range after a short corner routine was not dealt with.

Oldham's bid to end a three-game winless run, though, was hit when Mike Fondop received a red for a reckless challenge on Lee Jenkins, the Newport defender having to leave the field having been cut to the face as a result.

Ben Lloyd pounced after the restart to restore parity but the hosts failed to make the most of prolonged pressure.

And Donaghy looked like he would be earn the point with the penalty save before Kamwa's late, late heroics.
