Substitute striker Joao Pedro delivered a 10-minute hat-trick and secured victory for his new manager in a chaotic 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia.

Two late goals from the Brazilian added to earlier strikes from Dastan Satpaev, Dario Essugo and Jamie Gittens in what was Alonso's first match since taking charge other than behind-closed-doors friendlies.

How did the players perform in Sydney?

Teddy Sharman-Lowe: With number one Robert Sanchez likely being saved for Saturday's game against Tottenham and Filip Jorgensen expected to leave for Strasbourg, the 23-year-old was handed a start in goal. Sharman-Lowe made a good early save from winger Liam Gillion, but could have potentially done better for the second goal, though it was tucked right into the corner. 5

Tayo Subuloye: The Under-18s captain was unable to shine out of position at right-back, struggling to stop the third goal and did not see much of the ball. 5

Josh Acheampong: He did not cover himself in glory for Hammond's first-half goal and wa spart of a defence that was generally sloppy. 5

Tosin Adarabioyo: Captaining the side on Tuesday night, Adarabioyo missed two good headed chances and was part of a disjointed defensive display. 5

Landon Emenalo: With Jorrel Hato not ready after the World Cup and Marc Cucurella sold, Emenalo had featured more than any other player in the behind-closed-doors games prior to this match. He was good in possession, but was among those who struggled defensively and at fault for Wanderers' third goal. 6

Dario Essugo: The Portugal Under-21 international did not stand out until he combined neatly with Walsh before finishing to equalise just before half-time. 7

Reggie Walsh: Playing as a number 10, Walsh found good positions and saw a long-range effort saved in the 17th minute before his clever movement and cushioned pass helped create the equaliser. 7

Reggie Watson: Watson looked tidy in possession but also gave the ball away on a couple of occasions. It was impressive that the 16-year-old, the youngest player in the squad, was selected in the first place and he hit a powerful second half free-kick just over. He was the only player to complete the full match. 7

Dastan Satpaev: The Kazakhstan forward became the first goalscorer of the Xabi Alonso era despite not yet officially being a Chelsea player. The 17-year-old will join permanently when he turns 18 in August and made an impact before completing his move from FC Kairat. He burst away from German Ferreyra before firing in a near-post finish to open the scoring in the sixth minute. Although he blazed over in the 31st minute, he was again involved in Chelsea's second goal. 7

Liam Delap: The 23-year-old striker's future is in serious doubt after Chelsea made an approach for Danny Welbeck, but he still started in a rotated XI. His effort and work rate helped create an early chance for Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and he fired over in the 27th minute. 6

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen: Kavuma-McQueen curled an excellent effort on target early in the game but faded afterwards. 6

Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli: Used to playing in more attacking roles, Nicoll-Jazuli anchored Chelsea's midfield and looked fairly accomplished, especially given he is just 16. He also made a good goal-saving tackle. 7

Omari Kellyman: The 20-year-old winger, who was on loan at Cardiff last season, had a shot on target after coming on but didn't last long and was taken off again. 6

Robert Sanchez: There was little he could do to stop Awan Lual's goal in the second half. 6

Wesley Fofana: Calmed down Chelsea's defensive display until making a bad error. 7

Aaron Anselmino: The Argentine centre-back filled in out of position at left-back. 6

Levi Colwill: Steadied the ship with Fofana, but for a terrible mistake in possession from Estevao. 7

Estevao Willian: His first touch was a poor attempted volley, he later scuffed a shot into the ground and gave away the ball in a dangerous area for the fourth Wanderers goal. Estevao had one moment of magic in midfield, before racing away to shoot in the 84th minute. 5

Jamie Gittens: Equalised for Chelsea after initially hitting the target with a good shot as part of a great early impact. It's three goals in three games for Gittens, including two in two behind-closed-doors before today, during this pre-season. He is looking sharp. 8

Cole Palmer: He looked strong when on the ball but didn't get much space to operate in the middle of the pitch. 6

Joao Pedro: The Brazilian striker scored a hat-trick and simply outclassed and overpowered lesser opposition during a sensational, match-winning 30-minute cameo. Maybe he was angry having been left out of Brazil's World Cup squad. 9
