Reading have signed defender Josh Knight on a season-long loan from Portsmouth.

The 28-year-old made 14 appearances in the Championship for Pompey last season before suffering a back injury in November which kept him out for most of the campaign.

Knight had arrived at Fratton Park in the summer of 2025 from German club Hannover 96.

He previously made 141 appearances in the Championship and League One for Peterborough United in two separate spells from 2018 to 2020 and 2021 to 2024.

The former Leicester City academy product also played 37 times in the second tier for Wycombe Wanderers in the 2020-21 season.

"He's a good defender first and foremost, but he's also comfortable on the ball and gives us another real leader within the group," Reading manager Leam Richardson told the Royals' club website., external

"He knows this league inside out, he's had success in it before and he's coming to us fit and ready to go, having been involved with Portsmouth already this season."
