Shot of the day so far from Babar Azam, who is oozing class so far.

Slightly overpitched from Sonny Baker and the Pakistan right-hander unfurls a sublime cover drive for four.

Later in the over Baker bowls a bit straight and Babar shuffles across his crease and deftly flicks it off his hip for another.

Today was the 74th time a wicket has fallen on the first ball of an ODI, and the fourth time this year. Previous instances this year:

• Pakistan v Australia - Lahore, 2 June
• Netherlands v Nepal - Utrecht, 29 July
• South Africa v Australia - Johannesburg, 27 September

Today's stats will be supplied by Cricviz's Rufus Bullough

Not much in this pitch for the bowlers so far, by the looks.

Gus Atkinson strays on to the pads of Babar Azam's pads and he effortlessly flicks it fine for four.

Superb fielding by Will Jacks at point to stop, as he dives to stop a well-timed square drive from Babar Azam at the end of the over.

That was a bit of a nothing ball for that boundary from Sonny Baker but it sat up really nicely for Babar Azam.

Short from Sonny Baker and stylishly pulled away by Babar Azam for four with real elan.

We're into the winter now, Holly. But point taken.

Sonny Baker is bowling England's second over at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Babar Azam sees off four dots from Gus Atkinson before he flicks one into the on side for a single to get off the mark.

Fakhar Zaman has walked back out but he's going to have to walk back to the dugout.

That's so out. It's a very soft dismissal.

England are absolutely convinced that this one has gone straight to short mid-wicket.

A horror start for Pakistan.

Have England struck early here?

Fakhar Zaman has hit Gus Atkinson into the hands of Joe Root at short mid-wicket, but is it a clean catch?

The players have just stood nice and upright for the respective national anthems on a hazy day at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

There's a relatively sparse crowd in - including a smattering of England fans.

England have three players in their squad who have never played and ODI - Mason Crane, James Coles and Henry Crocombe - but all three miss out today so no new caps handed out before play.

The trio will have to wait until later in the series for their chance.

Pakistan: Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Saad Baig (wicketkeeper), Salman Agha, Hasan Nawaz, Arafat Minhas, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (captain), Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi: "The last game we also batted first so it will not be too different. The boys are playing their second game and we got 200 in a [recent] T20 game so we will see how we go and hope for a big total.

"Our players have experience - they have played enough - and they just need to bowl in the right areas, and in partnerships, and the wickets will come.

"I thought we played 50% or 60% in our batting in the first match. There were a few players not in their touch."

England captain Harry Brook: "We feel dew might play a factor so hopefully we can restrict them to a low total and chase it down."

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi has just given the coin a toss.

Harry Brook called heads. It comes down a head and the England skipper decides he fancies a chase.

England will bowl first.
