Operation Warm Welcome

Resettled in Wales under Operation Warm Welcome, Afghan families share their experiences of evacuation, resettlement and challenges they faced along the way.

In 2021, the UK government launched ‘Operation Warm Welcome’ to support the evacuation of Afghans who assisted UK forces in Afghanistan following the Taliban's return to power. Some families were temporarily housed in a hotel near Cardiff Airport as they began new lives in Wales.

While many local people offered support, demonstrations were also held outside the hotel by groups opposed to the hotel being used for housing. This documentary hears from Afghan families about how those protests affected them, alongside their experiences of leaving Afghanistan and adapting to life in the UK.

Through their stories, listeners gain an insight into the realities of resettlement, belonging, and rebuilding a future after displacement.
