Labour holds Holborn and St Pancras, as Polanski faces leadership scrutinypublished at 13:00 BST 9 October
Image source, PA MediaLabour has won the Holborn and St Pancras by-election - triggered by Keir Starmer's resignation as an MP - with Green Party leader Zack Polanski coming second.
Although it's been a Labour seat since its creation in 1983, the by-election was seen as a key test of Andy Burnham's ability to win over left-wing voters from an ascendant Green challenge.
Camden Council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali held the north London seat for Labour, but the party's majority was reduced from 11,572 to 3,364 - here's the vote in numbers.
"People voted for hope and now we're going to be able to deliver for them," Abdi-Wali told Labour activists at a celebratory rally this morning.
Although "disappointed", Polanski says his party tripled its vote share and turned a Labour safe seat into a "marginal".
Polanski went into the by-election with much of the focus on his response to a controversial Green Party motion that declared Zionism is a form of racism, and has faced a call to resign by the chair of Jewish Greens group as a result.
Polanski says he will "of course" stay on as leader, but Green Party sources tell our political correspondent Harry Farley that the current status quo is untenable.
