How can you use BBC Bitesize Careers in your classroom?

Bitesize Careers is a careers advice site made specifically for young people.

With insights from career experts and peers, over 500 job profiles, and plenty of well-known faces and places, there’s something for everyone on Bitesize Careers. Short films, quizzes, articles and podcast episodes help bring the world of work to life. Your students can get a realistic glimpse of different routes into roles, how much they could get paid, and what their day-to-day work lives could look like.

Bitesize Careers’ offering can be used as part of your school’s wider careers programme and is designed to help you meet the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers guidance, with topics that can be mapped against benchmarks two to six.

Help your students match their favourite subjects to potential future jobs with the “Jobs that use…” collection. You'll find:

• Hundreds of job profiles linking to specific school subjects
• Peer-to-peer advice through short films
• Information on entry requirements, salaries and pathways into job roles.

Activity suggestion:

• Ask your students to head to the relevant "Jobs that use…" page for their favourite subject and find three jobs that interest them
• For each role, ask them to jot down two things they learnt that surprised them and one question they'd like to know more about.

The “Careers in…” collection introduces students to different job sectors (such as healthcare and frontline services). You can expect:

• Hundreds of job profiles relating to specific sectors
• Peer-to-peer advice through short films
• Information on entry requirements, salaries and pathways into job roles.

Activity suggestion:

• Ask your students to take the What's your perfect job? quiz. They'll be given suggestions for different job sectors that might suit them, directing them to corresponding "Careers in…" pages
• Encourage them to explore the recommended pages, identifying at least one job that they hadn't previously considered from each sector to feed back to the class.

• Bookmark for later: Resources to save for the relevant time at your school, such as the CV toolkit and cover letter toolkit for work experience applications
