Enright helps Leeds beat York in Super Four opener

Leeds Rhinos followed Wigan Warriors to landing a first blow in the Super Four stage against York Valkyrie, winning 38-16 at AMT Headingley Stadium.

Four tries from Ruby Enright with one in the first half adding to Evie Cousins' opener and three in the second period ensured the Rhinos were always in a commanding position as the hosts punished sloppy play from Valkyrie.

Two tries from York's Megan Pakulis, the first levelling after Cousins had given Leeds the lead but the second was a consolation with the game firmly in the Rhinos' control.

Emma Kershaw had scored early in the second half to level matters at 10-10 but a stunning 80 metre solo effort from Ebony Stead on 48 minutes put Leeds back in control before Enright's late treble blew York away.

It was a good start to the Super Fours for Lois Forsell's side who followed Wigan in making a winning start after the latter's win over St Helens on Thursday.

The women's Super League has now split into two groups with the first four battling for a Grand Final place and the bottom four attempting to avoid playing a relegation play-off against National Championship winners for a spot in the top flight next season.

Featherstone Rovers will fancy their chances of avoiding that relegation match as they emerged with a 16-4 win in Saturday's fixture with Leigh Leopards at Twist Lane.

Unlike Leeds and York it was game where form from earlier in the season did not hold up with Leigh having thumped the Fev 34-8 in May.

Featherstone went in front after 13 minutes through Brogan Churm, a try converted by Dani Waters to lead 6-0 at half time.

Katie Evans barrelled over to give the visitors a 10-0 lead and Tilly Churm went over to make it 16-0 after Waters added the two.

Leigh managed a late consolation but it was a disappointing start for the Leopards as they seek to maintain their Super League status.
