A supporter asks John Mousinho about wanting the club to have a cup run and challenges him on over-rotating a squad like he "wants to lose the game" which draws a smile from the Pompey boss.

"I'm about winning games and this club staying in the Championship," Mousinho responded.

"My take on the past couple of years is that if we wanted to stay in the league then we had to make decisions in those games based off where we have been in the league at the time.

"We also had injury and form issues at the time which haven't helped us. I'd absolutely love a cup run though and this club has a big history in cups having won the FA Cup twice."

"The EFL Cup at the weeknd gives us the chance to go full strength. We'd love to win more in the cups but ultimately it's about staying in the league as the main thing as if we got relegated last season then it would be a very different set of questions here tonight."

Mousinho: We're a long way from where we want to do, there's not a hard-and-fast points tally that we need to achieve.

"We've increased the spending significantly this year which will probably put us a bit higher in the spend pecking order in the league but everyone else is also spending more, it's completely exploded.

"We saw a number of clubs in this league that had points deductions due to financial issues - we're not going to be one of those clubs I can guarantee you that.

"We try and be as elite as possible as we can in every department off the pitch, we want to improve the squad and will have a much clearer picture in the back end of August."

A fan has just asked if Portsmouth will be signing former loanee Abu Kamara and John Mousinho effectively refused to comment.

Andrew Moon then pressed him on it and said he had hoped the fans might have been able to get more information out of him than he has been previously.

Mousinho then responds: "We try to sign him every window anyway, who knows."

A supporter has just asked John Mousinho about striker Colby Bishop and raised concern about his goalscoring form last season.

Mousinho: "Colby went three seasons where he has scored 50 goals at an incredible rate and also came back from heart surgery, but there was an expectation that he would have scored more last year.

"There are a number of factors and Colby has taken responsibility for not scoring more. I think we haven't created enough chances and not having Josh Murphy was a real contributing factor.

"When we played another striker it wasn't like all of a sudden the goals were flyng in, but we have been looking to bring in those sort of profile of wingers and bolstering those areas.

"It's a big part of the playing style and something we need to improve too. We need to score more goals and do it in a different way."

John Mousinho has now been asked by a supporter if the club are actively doing anything to combat a high number of injuries over the last few seasons that he believes has hampered the club's progress.

"There's never going to be one issue with injuries, they're complex and are a part of the game and sport," he said.

"Particularly last year we were hampered by injuries in the same positions and without a doubt the year before we had exactly the same.

"It's always a combination of things and we are constantly looking into adjusting how we train, how we travel and the intensity in which we play.

"The way that I set up to play football and that the fans want us to play is with high intensity and ultimately we have to train to that level which does bring injuries with it.

"Alternatively we train at a much slower pace and we train the same which wouldn't translate to what we want to see on the pitch.

"The process for us is constant review and we've identified a number of things over the summer that we want to change.

"I completely agree there have been too many injuries and a lot of that is down to how I want the side to play, we're trying to mitigate it as much as possible but it's not as easy as picking one thing out."

We've had our first spygate question!

A gentleman has just asked if John Mousinho is familiar with spying techniques being used in football, and if Andrew Cullen would sack Mousinho if he found out he had been spying on other people's training sessions...

Mousinho: "I don't think it's particularly widespread in England but I think it's probably more common on the continent and beyond.

"Do people want to get a competitive advantage and push the rules as much as they can, the answer's yes and sometimes that spills over.

"If you want to come see us train then just get a day pass at the gym or buy one of the houses around the back, it's no problem whatsoever.

"What happened in the summer was unfortunate for that club but we have to just keep our heads down and wait for the outcomes, but for now we'll just get on with it."

Cullen: "There is a process that's in place and I don't think it's right to comment on other football clubs whoever they are.

"The EFL dealt with it swiftly and the FA are looking at it too, we'll let the process take it's natural course. There are rules in place that we all have to abide by as football clubs but I'm not going to get drawn into this."

"I do think it surprised a lot of us though as to how fast the EFL moved."

Portsmouth CEO Andrew Cullen is asked on what is at the front of his mind with Pompey at this stage of the summer.

"It's just about how you continue to progress the club and take it forward," he said.

"We're constantly thinking about how we can improve on the pitch and providing the support that we need.

"We've had two seasons in the Championship now and we want to progress this season and move on a bit more, in a gradual and sustainable way.

"We got some extra investment this summer and we're looking to see off the pitch where we can grow revenues because that's going to be important with the new SCR [Squad Cost Ratio] rules that have come into play."

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho gives his view on how Portsmouth's squad is looking so far.

"At the minute we have a long way to go in terms of what we want to achieve with the squad," he said.

"We've made some progress so far but there is plenty of work to do so I feel excited about the season but also that we have to really knuckle down and make sure that by the time the window closes we're in a really good spot."

Portsmouth skipper Marlon Pack picked up an injury during pre-season and has just provided an update for those in the room with his fitness.

"I'm progressing really well at the moment," he said

"The physio team are rightly so holding me back at the minute but I've been back on the grass today and it's been a big week for me, hopefully I'll be back training with the group next week."
