'Significant moment' as Plymouth move into top six

Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley says moving into League One's play-off places for the first time under his leadership is a "significant moment".

The Pilgrims rose into the top six after their 3-0 win over Barnsley at Home Park.

Barring a few minutes during the final day of fixtures last season Argyle have not been in the top six under the former Watford boss since he took over last summer.

"You don't win any trophies or any prizes for being sixth in September, but it's a significant moment," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"We've not been there under myself and there's been a lot of hard work to get the 10 points from a really difficult six fixtures, and I think we're back on par now when we look at targets for blocks of games.

"We would have all signed for 10 points at the start of the season looking at the fixtures we had, and now we've got momentum and we need to not be complacent with that momentum, keep hold of it, work hard for it and push forward."

Argyle started the game superbly as Oliver Irow blasted them ahead after just 20 seconds.

It set the tone for a performance that led to Cleverley hailing the performance of the 20-year-old attacker who is loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

"Thinking back, it's the best goal I've seen at Home Park, 20 seconds into the game," Cleverley added.

"The first touch is really impressive, the ball gets switched out to him, to take the first touch inside his full back and then produce a strike of such power and direction and quality.

"We've got a player who's got X-factor and those kinds of players turn tight games into two winning games, turn draws into wins and it's a superb strike."

Cleverley was also pleased as he had been working with his side on kick-offs in the week leading up to the game after conceding from one at Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers going close from a kick-off.

"It was an area of the game that I thought we could easily improve, so we did some work on it and I didn't expect it to end up in a 25-yard top corner goal," he said.

"But you should always get territory from your own kick-offs and we've been working on that, so pleased to see it come out today."
