Broadcaster Andrew Marr: ‘I got my information from politicians in nasty little bars’

Andrew Marr was born in Glasgow in 1959 but firmly identifies a Scottish Londoner. He first came down to London in the early 80s to work as a parliamentary correspondent for The Scotsman and subsequently edited The Independent newspaper in the late 90s. At the turn of the millennium he joined the BBC as Political Editor, a role he did until 2005, at which point he fronted his own political programme: The Andrew Marr Show, on Sunday mornings. After departing the BBC in 2021 he worked for LBC and The New Statesman and over the years has written several history books and a couple of novels. Robert Elms spoke to Andrew in 2014, when his debut fiction ‘Head of State’ came out. It was also a little over a year after he’d had a stroke - the impact of which Robert and Andrew spoke about.
