As our Music Is Black season comes to a close, Craig takes care of the Trunk of Funk, with a selection celebrating Black artists who’ve helped shape the music we play on this show. Our Funk & Soul Family Tree reaches the late 80s and 90s, as a new generation of Black British artists took funk and soul in new directions. From Omar and Lynden David Hall to D’Influence, Young Disciples and Incognito, as Rare Groove and Acid Jazz helped shape the sound of British soul. For our 1976 Funk & Soul Gold Album, we head to Miami for Gwen McCrae’s Something So Right.
