Savile Row's first black tailor

Guest editor Lenny Henry brings us stories of black Britons who have broken through racial barriers to become pioneers in their field of work.

Andrew Ramroop, the first black tailor on Savile Row, told Today: "I left Trinidad aspiring to be a Savile Row tailor, so I came directly to Savile Row."

"I had made myself two suits in Trinidad. I wore one and I carried the other and I came along to Savile Row looking for a job."

"I didn't understand racism to the extent that I learned later on. I was highly qualified but was turned down for approximately nine jobs."
