**** Artist Beryl Cook joins 4 Extra’s 100 Club, She would have been 100 on 10th September 2026. She died in 2008 aged 81.

'I'm very interested in tattooing. Quite often when we're in the pub and there's sailors in there - some of them have a lot of tattoos - and I've had enough to drink, I ask them if I can have a look and they're always pleased to show me. I think its a most interesting form of folk art.'

Artist Beryl Cook talks with Edward Lucie-Smith about her life and career.

She reveals how she began painting when she was running a seaside boarding-house.

She also explains all the markets, pubs, nightclubs and people she paints.
