Sian discovers a garden created almost a century ago with wellbeing at its heart. Colonel Arthur Barham began creating the gardens after returning physically and mentally scarred from the First World War, in which he was wounded and lost his eldest son at Ypres. Finding peace in the landscape he created, Barham opened the gardens to the public in 1927, an early recognition of nature’s restorative power which Sian explores through music and the changing seasons.
Featuring music by composers including Julie Cooper, Saint-Saëns and Elgar, Sian also encourages us to Find Focus in the music of Hania Rani, and muses on the healing power of nature. Also, Professor Catherine Loveday explains why the benefits of nature are not affected by the seasons.
