Skeleton drumming in The Loup and NVTV’s incredible archive.
Helen Mark MBE presents BBC Radio Ulster’s weekly Ulster-Scots magazine this week alongside Rab Lennox, Jonnie Crawford and Willie Hill. Rab and Willie have been to The Loup in Mid Ulster - a part of the world with a rich tradition of music and community spirit. They're there to chat drumming with St. Patrick's Flute Band - specifically their use of the unusual 'skeleton' drums. They even take the time to join in with a couple of performances! Meanwhile, Jonnie catches up with Brian Greene of NVTV to chat about (and hear a little of) their substantial archive which features many voices familiar to listeners of Kintra. Willie also travels to Islandmagee to hear about performances that used to take place at the legendary Rinkha Dancehall back in the day – but not as you might expect – showbands!
As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email – helen.mark@bbc.co.uk
