Using AI to complain

- Published
On Wednesday 2nd September, Holly Hamilton talked about how artificial intelligence can help strengthen your written complaints. It can be a helpful tool when used properly, aiding accessibility, language support and increasing confidence in people who struggle with writing.
Here are her top tips to help you get the best result when using AI to assist you in writing a letter of complaint:
Stick to the facts - What, where, when did it happen? Who was involved?
Remember to tell specify which country you are in the UK, because each once could have different rules.
Focus on your real experience and how it made you feel.
Share only the most relevant facts with your Chatbot. This protects your sensitive personal information.
State the outcome you are hoping for e.g. an explanation, an apology or a fix to a problem.
Instruct AI to send its response "in no more than X number of words" or "X number of paragraphs". Ask to keep it short.
Avoid asking to include legal arguments or jargon as this could slow down the processing time of your complaint. Only include what you understand.
Beware of the 'Warmth trap'. These Chatbots can be known to be telling people what they want to hear.
